Bring It On.

Once upon a time I decided to start a blog about my life as an "event girl" in the ever changing down town San Diego. ... And I actually did it.  Only to write one post and neglect it for the next three months.

My career life was in a bit of shambles during that time.  But as with most things in my life, when one door closes another opens.  And with that, I'm ready to take on new challenges.  And that is a very good thing because the next six months will throw me in there with the big dogs.

I started with a new company after leaving my very comfortable job at a very high end venue in Little Italy.  While I loved my job there, I needed to work with people that appreciated me and valued my work ethic (which is all a very nice way of saying what was really going on).  So I put the resume out and found an open door with new ventures and the most exciting thing: potential for growth.  Soon after I accepted the position and started, I questioned my decision in leaving "job security" to go to something that required "working for every penny."  And to make a very long story short, I have gone from part time, to laid off and back to full time within the past three months.  If that's not rolling with the punches, I don't know what is.

When I tell people I am an "event coordinator," they don't understand the amount work that really goes into each event and the department as a whole.  On a daily basis, I am catering to clients, playing fun with numbers, figuring out how an event should work all while being sure the laws of the lovely city we reside in are properly in place.  Yeah people, it is a lot of work; so please, don't call me a "party planner."

My professional life thus far as been an evolving learning experience, which I am ever more grateful as time passes.  I can honestly say that there are not many 24 year olds that do what I do.

I may be young, but I wasn't born yesterday.

Holiday Party!

Remember last December-time when you got that invite in your Outlook with a clever subject line about a holiday party?  Immediately what were distant memories or thoughts like "Sweet! Boss man is paying for the bar!" or "Oh, geez remember 'that girl' last year?" probably came to mind.  Or, if you're anything like me, your first reaction is either "WHAT AM I GOING TO WEAR?!" or, "Yes, an excuse to go shopping!!"

Regardless your take on holiday parties, they are no matter what a fun bonding moment for you and your colleges, a time to look back at the accomplishments of the year, and a reward for those twelve hour days you painfully managed to get through.  All in all, I'd say it's a pretty fun experience and every company should have one.

Well, that is very far away in your minds I am sure.  Meanwhile, it is at the very TOP of my list. You may be thinking, but it's MAY! This I am very well aware of.  I am working diligently to be front of mind for your companies party.  So that assistant to your boss, the human resources manager, or just the over eager associate who is all about "new challenges" (yes, you KNOW who I am talking about!!) is probably getting swamped by emails or looking ever so popular with all the mailers they are receiving...

Don't be too jealous.  Most of it is probably from me. :)
